Effects of Gynecomastia or Man Boobs On Your Physical Emotional and Social Health

By Jeremi Hani

Man boobs or male breast enlargement can have several physical, emotional and social impacts on a man. Among the effects, physical impact is the most obvious. As a man grows mature, he will undergo change in his life and during this time, he may be susceptible to gynecomastia or breast growth. If he is affected, he may have both of his breasts enlarged with puffy nipple.

If the physical change didn't revert, men with small breasts will develop low self-esteem and self-confidence. Those bothered by male breast growth will try to stay away from pools and other places that require men to take off their shirt.

At this rate, the impact of male breast growth has already increased. One breasts with lump and puffy nipple can already distraught the mind of a man. To hide their body, they would purchase and wear thicker clothes. Alternatively, they would use compression garment.

Due to the protruding breasts, men with gynecomastia are usually ridiculed and called homosexual by their schoolmates and neighbors. Their typical reaction is then to avoid their peers. Fortunately, some of these men will cope up and eventually live on. In most cases, they would even get married. Regrettably, the insecurity lingers.

Psychosocial discomfort also stays in married men with gynecomastia. In front of their wives, they still can't force themselves to take off their clothes. Their discomfort cannot easily be lessened even with comforting words from their wives' mouth. In extreme cases, they still feel worthless and despised.

Some cases of obesity in men are caused by the emotional impact of gynecomastia. According to these men, they need to grow bigger to keep up with the size of their breasts. In turn, their health is also affected. Obesity brings a lot of complications in one's health, including heart disease and high blood pressure.

Aside from all of these, men with gynecomastia also have constant fear of breast cancer. In most cases, these men believe that their gynecomastia is a tumor because the lump sometimes occurs in only one side of the breast. Their chronic fear can sometimes affect them financially.

Man boobs can be considered as a normal body condition found in some men. However, professional consultation and advice is still required to prevent, if possible, emotional and social effect. This condition is treatable and if you must take a medication or undergo a surgery.
